This week's Fuego sees us experimenting with a relatively new hop varietal, Strata Hops! White Oregon State University has been breeding and researching hops since the late 1800s, this variety was released in 2018, and is the first from their program to reach the general public. Kegerator.com sums up the flavor profile perfectly:
Strata is described as “Passion fruit meets pot.” It brings layered notes of tropical fruit including; mango, passion fruit, melon, fresh berry/strawberry, and some citrus in the form of grapefruit. Along with this comes a dank herbal note of drifting cannabis. It also has less of the diesel/catty bite other hops with the same funky dankness carry.
These fruity, dank hop pellets were added to the fermentation tank at Finca San Jeronimo along with freshly pulped Catuai and spent the next 24-36 hours soaking in this hoppy mixture. The finished coffee has a delicate fruit presence and balanced sweetness, making this single origin truly worth savoring.Country: Guatemala
