For those who leave us are never truly gone.
Marigolds - La Flor de Muerto - guide spirits back to their family homes; welcomed & refreshed from the journey via altars of candles, Calaveras, & favorite things from the living world. Stories & laughter bridge the gap between past, present, & future - celebrating ancestry, progeny, & family eternal even after we too are called to follow the Marigolds back home.
Fall is a season of change, evolving from warm to cold and active to hibernation. It is also a time of celebration from harvest season and appreciation for loved ones who are not with us in the physical world. To celebrate the Mexican Día de los Muertos, our offering brings together two sweet, clean coffees from Mexico, creating an easy-drinking comfort blend. The base of this coffee is a washed coffee from the Majomut cooperative in Chiapas, paired with a sweet, citrusy coffee from the state of Nayarit.
Majomut works with hundreds of small producers with farms ranging from 1/2 a hectare to 5 hectares, focusing on helping these families find stability in cultivation and getting their coffee to market. This includes consistent purchasing year after year, stable pricing, and assistance in farming practices including access to compost, quality control, organic methods for pest control, and working with them to improve fermentation methods and cup quality.
Nayarit is a coastal state in Central Mexico with lower coffee production than more known states like Veracruz or Chiapas. For many years these coffees were blended with lots from Veracruz for export. A recent initiative is distinguishing these coffees grown by only these producers in Nayarit. We are thrilled to be able to help bring these complex coffees into our portfolio for everyone to celebrate!
