Gesha began as a wild Ethiopian genetic, but has been cultivated primarily in Central America for the past several decades. Traveling through Costa Rica and Panama, this coffee was re-discovered in 2004 in a best of Panama cupping competition. Ever since, Gesha has been sought after for its incredibly unique cupping profile despite its notoriously low plant yield. Not to mention its susceptibility to roya (coffee rust) and genetic instability! High demand and small production quantities has driven the price for Gesha as high as $80 per green pound. It's not uncommon to see this coffee sold for $12 a cup!

El Trapiche is a third generation farm now owned and operated by Victoria Lasso in San Pedro de Catago, a small town in Colombia. The Lasso family is a driving force in the move towards specialty coffee in Colombia. They founded FUDAM, which is a group of coffee growers from the area that focus on high quality coffee, as well as social programs geared towards improving standards of living. They also work to empower female producers in the region by educating and improving coffee production practices.

The honey process on this Gesha helps bring out tons of sweetness and body in this cup!
