Mai Hua's 2020 documentary film "Les Rivières", taking six years to make, explores what happened when she brought her dying grandmother back to France, pulling together four generations of women from the same family. Kenny Dickenson's score accompanies all the pretty things, sad things, dirty, beautiful, happy, broken, and reborn moments of these women's experiences.
Built around delicate, sparkling piano motifs and complemented by cello, ambient chords, and other flourishes, this film score release is definitely a "soundtrack LP", with the music arranged to work as an album in its own right that should be listened to from start to finish. The album also includes a new piece "Pour Marthe" That was composed in memory of Mai's grandmother.
Kenny was gracias enough to record three songs live at DMC's Maggot Brain studios, with each bag purchase receiving the live versions for free.
